1. Blair Witch Project
2. The Descent
3. Land of the Dead
4. High Tension
5. Shaun of the Dead
6. Hostel
7. Cabin Fever
Haven’t seen See No Evil, either, and really? It is worth seeing? This is the first I’ve heard so… guess it’s going on the Queue then.
I’m a freak for the Final Destination movies, and actually prefer the 2nd one (more brilliantly elaborate set-pieces and no Devon Sawa = better), but I still don’t think they’d have made my top 7. Even though I’ve FD2 more than any of the ones I did place. Combined. Hmm, maybe I should re-think my list…
]]>1. Slither
2. House of 1000 Corpses/The Devil’s Rejects
3. May
4. Jason X
5. Shaun of the Dead
6. Hostel
7. Bubba Ho-Tep
Jay - I had High Tension on the list, but it was taken off for the same reason a number of other gems were discarded; an unnecessary and lame twist ending. Cabin Fever was up there, too, but I decided to stick to only one film per director.
JA - I couldn’t believe the reception Hostel got. So many people dismissed it as frat-boy horror yet I had an entirely contrary take on it. For awhile I couldn’t tell if it was me or the rest of the world that was missing the point. And I was also surprised that See No Evil received no attention at all, though I did remember thinking after watching it that even though I enjoyed it immensely I could never actually recommend it to anyone. I couldn’t decide between Final Destination 1 or 2, but I haven’t seen either of them in a few years. Maybe I should take another look.
Louis - Your list reads almost like my next 7. You liked Slither that much? I enjoyed it, but it left me a little cold. I think it was because the main characters didn’t really seem to be reacting emotionally to the situation in the second half. I’d be interested in knowing why you chose what you did.
]]>I regret not including Slither. I enjoyed it a great deal. Not as much as Night of the Creeps…but it still should’ve made my list. I would swap it with Cabin Fever.
