Clip of the Day - The Mist Video Review

As I’ve mentioned previously, occasional Horror Roundtable contributor and Rose City Roller Doug Nagy has begun his career as a professional blogger. His duties include video reviews, like the one for The Mist which he filmed with The Movie Blog proprietor John Campea.

But really I just wanted to post this so I could mention that I smoked that fuckmunch at Zombies! earlier tonight. That’ll teach you to mess with the Zombie Plow.

Clip of the Day - Time Crash

When is the Golden Age of Doctor Who? Around ten or eleven, I imagine.

For the past couple of years the team behind Doctor Who have been providing exclusive video clips bridging seasons for the charity Children in Need. This year’s selection showcases one of the traditions of the original series that hasn’t been touched yet; multiple Doctors. It’s a sweet little tribute by current doctor David Tennant to his Doctor.

I especially liked the crack about the Master’s beard.

Return of the Clip of the Day - Casper Cartoons

Online video service Guba has nearly four dozen Casper the Friendly Ghost cartoons available, from Boo Bop to Spook and Span and all points in-between. I was always more of a fan of the Harvey comics than the cartoons, which makes the fact that I immediately recognized all five random cartoons I checked out just a little disturbing.

Jailhouse Thriller.

This video of the entire population of a Filipino prison re-enacting the choreography from Michael Jackson’s Thriller is the world’s worst deterrent. If this is how they swing in the Philippines, book my flight and hand me an orange jumpsuit!

Thanks to J, who found this on Dlisted. And for more weird clips, make sure you check out Film Junk’s Weird Web Wednesday, where they also posted this video.

Equinox Review At Film Junk

Jay C., proprieter of The Documentary Blog and occassional Horror Roundtable contributor, has posted a video review of Equinox over at Film Junk. Not only is it a great overview of why you should check out that creature feature, the review looks nicer than the film itself. If I made video reviews I’d feel like a chump right about now. Jay has promised future installments if this one is well-received, so check it out and let him know that you’d like more.

Clip of the Day - George Romero’s Resident Evil 2 Commercial

Posting will most likely be a little light over the next two weeks, but I hate to let a day go by without something, so here you go.

Before Paul Anderson got his sticky little fingers all over the franchise, George A. Romero was slated to make his zombie comeback in the form of the first Resident Evil film. Though he was eventually kicked off the project, a few years previous to that debacle Romero did manage to shoot one small Japanese commercial for the first sequel to the game.

Clip of the Day - The Sea of Perdition (NSFW)

After directing the cult films Hardware and Dust Devil, Richard Stanley seemed to have fallen off the face of the earth popping up occassionally with a few shorts and documentaries. Now it looks like he’s ready to make the leap back into feature-length horror, with a short called The Sea of Perdition that serves as a calling card for his re-entry into the game. The short concerns a cosmonaut lost on the surface of Mars who stumbles across a horrific discovery. Be warned, it’s NSFW and it’s also a little… odd. In an interview with Suicide Girls, Stanley reveals that Warren comics were an inspiration for the piece. Hopefully that will put you in the right mindset. Link courtesy of Fangoria.

Clip of the Day - Vacancy trailer

I remember reading about Vacancy a few months back and being taken by the premise. A young couple stranded overnight in the middle of nowhere come to the realization that their motel is a front for the production of snuff films. Simple yet effective. The first trailer for the movie, starring Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale, can be found over at Yahoo.

Clip of the Day - Cong of the Dead plus bonus trailer

The grindhouse faux-trailers keep rolling in, this time with the stop-motion Vietnam zombie extravaganza Cong of the Dead. Dave of The Abbatoir rated this one higher than Hobo With A Shotgun, but for me it faltered slightly by using the same voice actor as the narrator and the characters.

Bonus Grindhouse faux-trailer - It’s a bit rough around the edges, but at least Emmauelle, Prisoner of Frankenstein has it’s heart in the right place.

Clip of the Day - Hobo With A Shotgun plus bonus trailer

I’m a little late getting to this party, but I’m hoping to make up for lost time.

Over a month ago I posted about a small contest Robert Rodriguez was holding in conjunction with SXSW where participants would submit their own faux-trailers for an imaginary grindhouse feature. I immediately forgot all about it, but since then dozens of people have taken up the challenge, many of them posting their contributions on You Tube. I’ve gone through over 30 of them so far, and of them all one stands head and shoulders above the rest. Rodriguez, Tarantino, et al. better watch their backs, because I’m not sure even they can match the exploitative power of Hobo With A Shotgun. Link courtesy of The Rue Mortuary.

Bonus Grindhouse faux-trailer - Witness the horror behind the patch! 150 Days of Sodom’s Warren makes a special appearance in Blind Vengeance.

Clip of the Day - The Demonic Possession

Just in time for The Final Girl Film Club, a monster kid reimagining of The Exorcist called The Demonic Possession. This one is really effective, and has a few additions to the plot that seem straight out of The Evil Dead, despite being made years earlier than that film. If your idea of a good time is watching kids with feathered hair and Adidas shirts slap each other around to the theme from The Exorcist, then you’re probably me.

Clip of the Day - Danger! 50,000 Zombies!

Nick Frost, co-star of the hit zom-rom-com Shaun of the Dead, also had a sideline as the host of the survival television program Danger! 50,000 Volts! The show took various worst-case scenarios and showed the viewer how best to avoid death and/or dismemberment. Not aired in its initial broadcast was perhaps the most important segment of them all; how to survive a zombie attack. Joined by professional zombie hunter Dr. Russell Fell, Nick walks us through all the steps necessary in avoiding becoming one of the shambling hordes.

Clip of the Day - Kreating Karloff

The documentarians behind the film Kreating Karloff have placed the entire thing online, which is not a bad idea when you consider the purpose behind the production. Conor Timmis is a Boris Karloff fan so taken with his hero that he has put together a show reel in an attempt to convince major studios to produce a full biopic of the horror legend with him as the star. This film is a look behind-the-scenes at the various people who have helped him along the way, along with their observations on both Karloff and how they perceive Timmis’ obsession with the actor.

Clip of the Day - Seinfeld

I know they’ve been done to death already, but I just can’t get enough video mash-ups where otherwise innocent films and television shows are twisted into something dark, or vice versa. The Abbatoir presents yet another one, this time exposing the true colours of Jerry and the gang. It’s completely bizarre, and actually made me feel a little uncomfortable in parts.
